Deniz Karabakal joined Synapse in 2024. He conducts research and analysis on a variety of energy sector topics. His work involves quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on subjects such as grid resilience, gas peaker plant retirement, and electric vehicle rate impacts and design.

Prior to joining Synapse, Mr. Karabakal completed his master’s thesis project on the climate resiliency of the Metro Boston transportation system. The project consisted of validating and running a simulation model using Eclipse SUMO, an open-source multimodal transportation simulation tool, under a policy scenario and business-as-usual conditions. Mr. Karabakal also worked as a consultant at Dimensional Insight. 

Mr. Karabakal holds an MS in Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University and a BS in Informatics from the University of Michigan.
