Jack Lewnard is a Senior Technical Advisor focusing on gas system safety and technology, including pipe rehabilitation, repair, and preventative maintenance; low-carbon options for the gas grid; and compressed natural gas and liquified natural gas.  During his 40-year career he has held a wide range of roles in research and development, program development and management, process engineering, commercial development, and engineering management.

During his 5-year term as a Program Director at DOE’s ARPA-E agency he managed over 70 projects spanning a wide range of energy technologies.  The $40MM REPAIR program focused on developing advanced GIS-integrated pipe mapping hardware and software, robotic tools to rehabilitate pipes while minimizing excavation, and developing hardware and software tools to validate pipe repair technologies. He also managed programs in methane emission abatement, carbon capture for intermittent gas-fired power plants, methane pyrolysis, and plastics recycling.  Previous roles include VP Business Development at Chesapeake Utilities, VP/CTO at the Gas Technology Institute, VP Process Development at Greenfuel Technologies, and 17 years at Air Products. He was on the organizing committee for the International Gas Research Conferences, chair of IGRC2014, and Chair of the International Gas Union Program Committee PGC-F Research and Innovation Committee from 2012-2015.

In addition to his work at Synapse Energy, Jack is an advisor to several start-ups and consultant to government agencies, private companies, and non-profit organizations on energy-related technology, intellectual property, commercialization of new processes, and program management.
