Making Energy More Affordable in Michigan

Project completed.

On behalf of Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the Evergreen Collaborative, Synapse examined strategies to improve energy affordability for Michigan households. As electricity prices and essential living costs continue to rise, the report identifies three different policy interventions that can lower costs for residential customers in DTE’s service territory. We quantify the impacts of interventions including improving the fairness of data center cost allocation, correcting utility return on equity, and expanding initiatives and incentives for customer-owned power. As a result of policy solutions deployable in the next four years, we estimate that residential customers could save at least $219 a year by 2030.
