Minnesota Power IRP
Applied Economics Clinic
Project completed.
Synapse was a subcontractor to Applied Economics Clinic and working with Energy Futures Group for a group of clients including Sierra Club, Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, Clean Grid Alliance, and Fresh Energy on the Minnesota Power Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). Minnesota Power proposed a new natural gas combined cycle plant. Synapase collaborated with Energy Futures Group to develop an alternative preferred plan which avoided new gas investment. In part, this meant developing alternative capital cost assumptions for new resource options. The MN PUC agreed that the new gas plant was not justified and rejected it.
