New York Distributed Solar and Storage Savings
Coalition for Community Solar Access
Project completed.
Synapse conducted an hourly, statewide analysis to assess the benefits of additional distributed solar and storage additions in New York. We estimate that increasing the level of solar and storage projects (in line with installing 20 GW of distributed solar by 2035 and achieving the state’s storage target, compared to a business-as-usual scenario) will lower energy costs by $1 billion in 2035, while also decreasing reliance on volatile gas and avoiding 3.2 million metric tons of CO2 emissions. These benefits are year-round, with 56 percent of the avoided costs occurring from November to March.
