Water and Electricity Production: Constraints and Impacts

Civil Society Institute
Completed September 2013

Synapse analyzed the multiple water problems facing the U.S. electricity industry. These water-related issues range from insufficient water for power plants during droughts, heat waves, and in areas with rapidly growing populations to water quality impacts from coal mining, natural gas fracking, and power plant wastewater. Our analysis also highlighted numerous information gaps regarding water-energy dependencies that hinder the development of adequate environmental regulations and energy planning. Synapse produced a report and a policy brief on the issues and presented at a webinar hosted by the Civil Society Institute. Project completed September 2013.
